OLIVELO ECOLOGIC SETTLEMENT

2019

The location of the competition area and the relations it establishes with its immediate surroundings require a setup that will create spatial, sociocultural, economic, and ecological continuities at different scales. While the competition area is located in an area subject to the pressure of urbanization on a regional scale, it will also have to face the serious consequences of the expected climate change effects in the near future. This constitutes obstacles to agricultural production, cultural continuity, and the continuation of the original structure of the area. In this context, it is critical that the biological, genetic, and production processes of the competition area continue to exist. In that case, the proposals to be developed regarding the competition area -integrated with its immediate environment- describe a selectively permeable structure that allows activities, processes, and inputs that feed the biological, genetic, and production cycles of the competition area, breaks and disrupts these cycles and prevents negative impact factors. the conceptual approach has been developed.

The landscape design decisions of the OliVelo competition area have been developed with an overlapping setup with the concepts of SELECTIVE PERMEABILITY and SUSTAINABLE LIFE CYCLE, which constitute the basic approach of the project.

In landscape design, it is aimed to protect the ecological values of the area and to repair the destroyed features, and design a durable and productive landscape both as a process and physically, which can adapt to any environmental conditions that may occur in the future, taking into account climate change and population growth. In the architectural design, on the other hand, the principles of providing a positive interaction with the ground and leaving a minimum footprint on nature have been acted upon.
