HUKOY

2019

Hukoy is an ecological accommodation, education, and recreation campus built in the Cukurova region, which has a very warm climate and fertile soil, in the south of Turkey. The campus investor purchased a land in the countryside surrounded by pine forests, 45 minutes away from the city, in order to carry out school activities and provide accommodation for the parents of the students. He made this investment by renting the forest around him from the state.

Various accommodation, restaurant, education, sports, and entertainment units with a total area of 3000 m2 have been placed within the 17-hectare campus area, with minimal intervention to the natural ground.

In the application, which lasted for approximately 3 years, the design was made with the strategy of settling in the existing voids without damaging the trees, bushes, and other natural forest structures by using the micro-pile method with minimal damage to the tree roots.

The structures are manufactured in the factory with a light steel system. These units were then transported to the site in parts and quickly assembled.
For the insulation of the buildings, a total wall thickness of 35 cm was obtained to meet the passive house conditions. Cellulose-based insulation, wall blocks obtained from compressed straw bales, and breathing natural mixture plasters were used between the layers.

It is planned to meet the water consumption demand with rain collection systems, to use the black and gray water by recycling, to generate its own fertilizer with compost to be obtained from natural wastes.
